Sexual Abuse

Sexual Abuse can be defined as: "Sexual contact without consent. Rape, incest, attempted rape and unwanted sexual touch are often called sexual assault."

When sexual abuse occurs within a marital relationship, it is often called "marital rape". When it occurs between persons who are friends, acquaintances, or dating partners, it is referred to as "acquaintance rape" or "date rape."

Sexual abuse may include but is not limited to any of the following:

  • forced sexual penetration

  • unwanted touching, fondling, grabbing, pinching, squeezing

  • using "Power Privilege" to determine when, where, how, and with whom, sexual act will/will not occur
Coercing a partner into having sexual contact with other persons is a common use of an abuser's power. This              motivation for sexual assault is power - not sexual desire. It is important to understand that EVERYONE (wives,              lovers, dating partners, friends) has the right to say "NO" to sexual contact, regardless of previous contact.
