Humboldt Park Outreach Program

In 2000, CAWC established the Humboldt Park Outreach Program (HPOP), a comprehensive domestic violence services program located in Humboldt Park. Bilingual and bicultural staff are sensitive to the issues many victims bring and provide crisis intervention, safety planning, referrals and legal advocacy. In addition to the range of services available at HPOP, children who are negatively impacted by the trauma of experiencing domestic violence can receive specialized therapeutic services on-site from a Family Trauma Therapist. Mothers can also receive parenting education and support.

HPOP staff also provide domestic violence services and education throughout the Humboldt Park area.                Participants of SER, a job readiness, training and placement program located in Humboldt Park receive domestic                violence education and services on-site and at CAWC. CAWC also works with local IDHS offices to provide                services to women who site domestic violence as a barrier to employment. Staff train IDHS employees to identify                and refer victims of domestic violence. By working with SER and IDHS, HPOP is able to reach more victims of                domestic abuse with critical services in a setting that is safe and convenient.

HPOP's specialized children's services meet the critical needs of children who are experiencing domestic                violence. Some of the behaviors exhibited by children who are traumatized by domestic violence are: school                discipline problems, separation problems, appearing withdrawn, fearfulness and aggressiveness.
