Adopt-A-Family
A new beginning for a woman fleeing an abusive relationship starts with the bare necessities: food, water, and a safe place to live for herself and her children.
When Elizabeth arrived at Greenhouse Shelter with her three children (ages 4, 2, and 8 months), she breathed a sigh of relief knowing that they now had a safe place to stay and that they were all guaranteed food, water, and support. Over the next few months, CAWC counselor advocates, legal advocates, and housing specialists will work with Elizabeth to find a job, secure housing, and recover from the emotional, financial, and physical burdens she has endured. Most important, they will help her gain the confidence and skills to ensure a safe future for her family.

The average stay at Greenhouse Shelter is three to four months, meaning that Elizabeth and her children may be lucky enough to have their holiday wishes granted by those who wish to sponsor a CAWC family for Christmas. Unfortunately, more than 75% of CAWC clients don’t get their holiday wishes granted due to the time of year when they seek services, and often those “wishes” are necessities we often take for granted. This year, we are starting a campaign to recognize and adopt all CAWC families.
If you are interested in sponsoring a CAWC family during this upcoming holiday season and beyond, we have many options available. Please contact Anne Borg, Development Director, for information at cawcaborg@mindspring.com or 773.489.9081 ext. 21.
