CAWC Executive Director, Stephanie Love-Patterson, was interviewed by WGN News to honor Tina Turner’s legacy and comment on how service providers like CAWC help domestic violence survivors overcome the challenges faced when leaving an abusive relationship.
“For anyone who’s in an abusive relationship, I say this: nothing can be worse than where you are now. Nothing. If you get up and leave, if you rise from the ashes, life will open up for you again.” Tina Turner
Your gift today means that CAWC will be able to continue supporting individuals and families experiencing abuse today. Thank you for helping us actualize our mission and spread Tina Turner’s legacy.
In memory of Tina Turner
The Queen of Rock ‘n Roll, Tina Turner, was more than just a musical icon – she was a fierce advocate for victims of domestic violence. As a survivor herself, she spoke openly about the abuse she endured, including physical beatings, and how it impacted her children. Tina Turner escaped the relationship and shared her story widely, including in an autobiography, I, Tina, in 1986 that was adapted into a movie, What’s Love Got to Do with It. Her influence changed conversations about domestic violence and opened doors for survivors to access invaluable resources as they reclaimed their lives. CAWC is proud to be among these resources as a leading service provider in Chicago, transforming the lives of survivors and fostering a safer community.
As a tax-exempt organization, CAWC relies on contributions to make a difference in the lives of survivors and their children. Every donation brings us that much closer to our mission of ending domestic violence.
